Happy Birthday, Grandma!

10 Jan

We love and miss you, Grandma Joan!

“Perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy.”

Wall of Intentions

I took one of the best spin/yoga classes ever on New Year’s Day.  I was on the waiting list and wasn’t expecting to get in but I am so glad I did!  It was an hour and 15 minutes of hard work and I looked like a drowned poodle after but it was so much fun!  My teacher usually puts up just one intention card for the class to focus on it during our spin.  For the New Year’s class, she put up all of her intention cards.  It was a cool collage of thought provoking phrases.  It was also a great way to reflect on 2011 and what I want to create in 2012.  I thought it was really inspiring.

The holidays were great and they’re over.  Now that it’s back to the regularly scheduled program . . . what are your intentions for 2012?

Traditional New Year’s Day Hike

2 Jan

I've been afraid of seeing a rattle snake here ever since I saw one last summer! Hibadadibbada!

January 1, 2012 is the 4th New Year’s Day I have spent in Los Angeles.  I can’t believe it!  I started a tradition in 2009 of going on an early morning hike to Runyon Canyon.  New Year’s Day is my favorite holiday so I love greeting the first morning of the year on top of a mountain overlooking all of Los Angeles.  Here are some shots I took on New Year’s Day 2012 and also some pics from the past three years:

Runyon Canyon trail. Love the "golden hour" of sunlight! Taken around 7am.

Loved this palm tree framing the skyline.

Freeway shot.

Love this old Airstream trailer that sits on one of the paths at Runyon.

Skyline shot through an "antenna". 🙂

Good morning L.A.!

Rula is all smiles on the second annual New Year's Day hike in 2010.

I hope everyone enjoyed their New Year’s Day.  I am so thankful to see another year.  Peace and happiness in 2012!  Happy New Year.
