BOO! Scary Filming Locations Around Los Angeles

In celebration of one of my favorite holidays, I thought I’d post pictures of some famous scary movie locations in Los Angeles!  I’ve seen a few of these in person and some I have yet to see.  Maybe I’ll do a drive by tonight!  Happy Halloween, everyone!!

House from Michael Jackson’s music video “Thriller”.  In one of Los Angeles’s oldest neighborhoods, Angelino Heights, on Carroll Avenue.

 

“A Nightmare on Elm Street ” was a smash success in 1984. It was Johnny Depp’s film debut. The unexplained and deadly disease, Brugada Syndrome, was an inspiration for this terrifying film. The house is located on Genessee Avenue, West Hollywood.

 

 

The Doyle house where Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis) babysits in John Carpenter’s “Halloween”.  Located on Orange Grove in Hollywood.

Laurie Strode’s (Jamie Lee Curtis) house from “Halloween” is located in South Pasadena on Oxley Street. The movie blended the two neighborhoods of Hollywood and Pasadena to create a fictional Illinois neighborhood.

“They’re he-e-e-re!” The Poltergeist house on Roxbury St. in Simi Valley, CA was hit hard by earthquakes, but still stands long after the 1982 film debut.

 

 

The house from the 1959 horror film “The House On Haunted Hill” is located in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles. Frederick Loren, played by the always eerie B-movie star Vincent Price, invites his guests to spend the night at his mansion, and then locks them inside. A Mayan themed concrete block building, the home was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and completed in 1927. In addition to House on Haunted Hill, the building was also the mansion to Claude Estee, in the 1974 film, The Day of the Locust, as Harrison Ford’s pad in the 1982 film Blade Runner, and more recently as the home of the character Angel on the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. There are numerous other projects that have also used the Ennis Brown House. The house is on the National Trust For Historic Preservation’s list of the 11 Most Endangered Historic Places.

 

 

One of my personal favorites, “What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?” starring Bette Davie and Joan Crawford. The Hudson sisters’ mansion: South McCadden Place, Hancock Park, south of Hollywood.

 

 

The Bates home from Alfred Hitchcock’s 1969 “Psycho” is a main attraction on the Universal Studios back lot in Universal City.

 

 

Another favorite Halloween movie of mine, “Hocus Pocus”! Most of the movie was shot in Salem, Mass but the adult Halloween party scene was shot here at the Park Plaza Hotel in Downtown L.A. “New York, New York”, “Chaplin” and “Charlie’s Angels” also used this location.
